September 22 is Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’ Birthday, Bilbo’s Eleventy First birthday party featured in JRR Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit. It was a fabulous shindig under the Part Tree with plenty of merriment to be had.
When the time came to come up with a name for our exciting business we wanted something that represented what a good party should be. The definition of a Shindig is: a large lively party, one celebrating something. The company name also needed to reflect our New Zealand origins and bonus points of it could be identified with Upper Hutt. Well you don’t get more Kiwi than LOTR (Lord of the Rings), since the films were made here and a fair bit of that filming happend over our back fences, literally! “Eleventy First” is one hundred and eleven, 111, the age of Bilbo at his magical shindig. When you are at your wits end, and need a helping hand or three, don’t dial triple 1 - call us, to help provide the theme to your celebration! And that’s the story of how Eleventy First Shindigs became our Business name. Being a thoroughly New Zealand company, we are dead keen to keep us a mean green country, so we have strived to provide bespoke and sustainable party decorations and equipment for you to use. We have been thinking a lot about our company and what we do ... and preparing in the background for your next shindig. Things have been a bit crazy in our personal lives since we launched our web page, social media and did our first trade show as part of the Pop Up Business School Aotearoa. But what better day to relaunch and get things happening than Hobbit Day? So we did! We made some delightful morsels to eat, invited some of our good friends from school and had a fabulous shindig in the changeable spring weather. We chose our Woodland Theme with its trees and cute little creatures. This backdrop has so many possibilities such as A Gruffalo style party. It was, in our opinion and all of our guests, a great re-launch for Eleventy First Shindigs. We are very excited to be back and have such a cool service to provide. Watch this space, we will be back with more soon. Or come down and visit our stall in the Night Markets at Aston Norwood Country Gardens on the 12 October from 5pm.

One year ago I (Justine) was 8 months pregnant and for some obscure reason Jonnette absolutely had to go shopping in Lower Hutt with all the children for business stuff. The thought of waddling down High Street in search of who knows what had me wishing for an extreme weather event. As if that wasn’t bad enough she then had me stopping at our Playcentre to assist with a “blocked toilet.” Insisting I go inside, I almost lost my breakfast at the thought, however curiosity got the better of me as there was an odd selection of familiar cars in the parking lot, odd for a blocked toilet anyway. Upon opening the front door I was greeted by a wonderful group of friends, one of our dessert tables with a too cute theme and treats all loving made for me and baby! We had a wonderful time playing games, speculating the gender and actual born day. Thank you Jonnette for joining me on this journey creating EleventyFirst Shindigs and being patient while baby has slowed me down. Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton Ok, so we have spent just two days ... yes just two days! ... at the Popup Business School Aotearoa, and they have us making our own webpage! Bit scary, but we are also featuring in Upper Hutt's Popup Trade Show next week! Nothing like a little pressure to get things going.
Keep checking in with us as we learn all about this new technology, while we create many more party themes, and of course taking more photos of what we have and what we are doing. If you can't find what you are looking for on the website ... we probably haven't quite loaded it, but it will be in our heads. Contact us! Jonnette and Justine |
